The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed more stringent standards for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles for the 2027 model year and beyond.
“By proposing the most ambitious pollution standards ever for cars and trucks, we are delivering on the Biden-Harris Administration’s promise to protect people and the planet, securing critical reductions in dangerous air and climate pollution and ensuring significant economic benefits like lower fuel and maintenance costs for families,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan.
The proposed standards are projected to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, and the EPA projects that EVs could account for over 65% of new vehicle sales in 2032. The proposed standards are projected to result in a 56% reduction in projected average greenhouse gas emissions target levels compared to the existing 2026 standards.
With these changes prices for gasoline powered cars will certainly increase as we approach 2032, many people don’t want an EV. It will be interesting to see if EV prices come down when production increases. The manufacturers claim EV prices are high because they are not mass-produced. Currently an EV costs around $10,00 more than a comparable gasoline powered car.
There are many variables that must be taken into consideration when contemplating a car purchase. We can help you put together a plan to make your next purchase one you won’t regret.
